Persian saffron grades describe which part of the stigma thread is used and how it is cut. A grade does not replace laboratory testing, but it tells you what to expect in appearance, color strength and price.

Super Negin

The longest, thickest and most uniform all-red threads, selected from the best Negin. It is chosen for luxury retail packaging and gifting, where appearance matters as much as strength.

Negin

Long, all-red threads with very little breakage. Negin is the benchmark grade for premium wholesale because it combines strong color, aroma and an attractive appearance.

Sargol

Only the red tip of the stigma, cut short. Sargol releases color quickly and strongly, so it is popular with food manufacturers, spice blenders and beverage producers.

What about Pushal?

Pushal includes a small part of the pale style together with the red stigma. It is usually lower in price and in color strength than Sargol.

  • Luxury retail and gifting: Super Negin
  • Premium wholesale and distribution: Negin
  • Food manufacturing and blending: Sargol

Whatever grade you choose, ask for the ISO 3632 results of the actual lot. Not sure which grade fits? Use our grade finder or request samples of two grades and compare them side by side.
